At the invitation of Prof. Gordana Medunić from the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Science, Department of Geology, Asst. Prof. Sanja Stipičević gave a lecture titled “Pesticides in Soil and Methods for Converting Bio-waste into Innovative Hydroponic Solutions” for graduate students of the Environmental Sciences and Environmental Geology programs. The purpose of the lecture was twofold: first, to examine the fate of pesticides in soil after their application and to highlight the need for more sustainable approaches in agriculture; and second, to present the challenges associated with managing bio-waste in the environment. Based on the research results of the Was2Grow project, the lecture presented possibilities for converting various types of bio-waste into functional hydroponic substrates that could modernize plant food production and reduce environmental pressure from pesticides. The lecture was held on November 6, 2025, at the Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Health in Zagreb.
