Was2Grow on the European stage of analytical chemistry

An illustrative example of an integrated application of spectrometric and spectroscopic analytical techniques in the characterization of waste sheep wool was presented at EUROANALYSIS 2025, the largest European conference on analytical chemistry held from August 31 to September 4, 2025, in Barcelona, Spain. The conference, under the theme “Analytics 5.0: Answering Societal Challenges,” was dedicated to exploring the role of analytical chemistry in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In the Circular Economy section of the conference, a member of the Was2Grow research team, Assist Prof Sanja Stipičević, gave a lecture entitled “Comprehensive characterization of sheep wool from dominant Croatian breeds: A renewable resource for agroecosystems.” It was a great opportunity to present part of the Was2Grow project results, in which cutting-edge analytical science enabled a detailed assessment of the wool’s chemical composition and surface structure, thereby supporting its potential valorization as a raw material to produce efficient and ecological hydroponic substrates. The lecture summary is available at the link.
